FlexiFilter in questions and answers
What type and size of FlexiFilter filter should I choose for my pool?
The filtered water must pass through FlexiFilter in the filter housing. Fill large filter housings with FlexiFilter 50 cubes to make a layer of at least 10cm or half of the volume of the housing. To ensure that water does not flow through the FlexiFilter material, seal the cubes with a FlexiFilter 400 or FlexiFilter 300 ring above the entire surface of the housing. If you use smaller filter housings, at least two coats of FlexiFilter 240 (FlexiFilter 180 or smaller depending on the diameter of your housing) may be sufficient. Choose a round filter equal to or larger than the inner diameter of your housing. The cubes under this layer help to absorb more impurities so that the filter layer does not have to be cleaned or changed often.
I put one bag of sand in the sand filtration. How much FlexiFilter material do I need?
One pack of FlexiFilter 50 (300 g) will fully replace one bag of sand (20–25kg).
Can FlexiFilter be cleaned with backflushing?
Yes, FlexiFilter, however, “holds” the trapped dirt more and the backflushing is not as effective as with sand. Rinsing may be performed less frequently than with sand.
Can I use FlexiFilter directly to dewinterize my pool for water purification?
When dewinterizing your pool, treat the water chemically, use a chloroshock and then a flocculant. Let dirt to settle down after the winter and vacuum clean it out of the pool outside the filtration. Vacuum-cleaning dirt from the bottom of the pool would disproportionately clog FlexiFilter, which is designed to catch small dirt particles and to “maintain” quality water.
In case of increased occurrence of dirt (e.g. night raids of insects) it is possible to put a pre-filter into the skimmer housing (which you connect the vacuum cleaner to). The filter material is easily accessible, and you can only clean and wash it more often.
How many FlexiFilter cubes should I put in the filter housing?
The housing must be filled with FlexiFilter so that the filter layer is at least 10cm thick. Squeeze the cubes so that there are no gaps between the tufts for the free flow of water outside the filter layer reaching up to the bottom of the filter housing.
To seal the FlexiFilter 50 cube layer, we recommend inserting one piece of FlexiFilter 400 filter ring into the housing (or according to the size of your housing).
What is the service life of FlexiFilter?
Due to the high degree of dirt trapping, we recommend replacing it every year for hygienic reasons.
After the material saturating, FlexiFilter users rinse it with a stream of water through a hose, the WAP system, and they rinse it using chemical cleaning and disinfecting agents. You can also use 1–2 washing cycles in your washing machine (without any washing powder) and use the material in the next season.
Does FlexiFilter float in its filter housing?
FlexiFilter does not float because the density of plastic fibres is higher than that of water. Due to the low pressure drop, the material is not compressed either and the high absorption capacity of the FlexiFilter is ensured throughout its service life. To seal the FlexiFilter 50 cube layer, we recommend inserting one piece of FlexiFilter 400 filter ring into the housing (or according to the size of your housing).
When the material floats, it is filled with impurities and buoyed by oxygen resulting from unwanted biological processes.
What is the pressure drop when using FlexiFilter?
The pressure drop during the filtration is 10 times smaller than usually, only a negligible 20mbar.
Can aseptic measures be performed with FlexiFilter?
The FlexiFilter can be heated to 75 °C. (This applies to bacteria that do not survive 75 °C, such as legionella at 60 °C).
How to dispose of FlexiFilter?
Disposal of FlexiFilter is the same as with domestic waste (with final use in a municipal waste incinerator).
We produce the material from 100% recycled plastic. The plastic used has already been used at least once.
Is FlexiFilter stable?
Yes. Compared to other materials, the FlexiFilter is dimensionally stable and does not release any individual fibres that could damage, for example, the pump.
Can I use flocculants with FlexiFilter?
Yes, FlexiFilter can be used with flocculants to precipitate impurities. Even without the flocculant, the filtration capacity of FlexiFilter is significantly higher than when using filter sand.
What size pool is FlexiFilter suitable for?
FlexiFilter can be used in the smallest filtration as well as in a filter housing for several hundred kilograms of sand filling.
Is FlexiFilter suitable for an algae filtration?
FlexiFilter is also suitable for an algae filtration. However, the algae may not be completely removed due to their size (below 0.003mm). Of course, you must use chemistry, a UV-lamp, and the like to eliminate (stop their growth) algae.
